Happy October, friends! Can you even believe fall is already here? I live in the Southeast, so I am not quite experiencing lovely Autumn weather yet… it’s more like cool mornings, hot afternoons, with a heavy dose of humidity. The Autumn vibes are certainly in the air, though! I am craving hikes in crisp weather, leaf peeping, hot drinks, and pumpkin baked goods. With this Fall comes a good bit of travel for me, too! I have a few trips planned (including my first solo trip!!!) and I can’t wait to share more. But for now… before all that jet setting. Let’s talk about why you need travel insurance for your next vacation.

Why you need travel insurance | Ashley on the Move

With more travel comes more expenses, more colds and germs, and do I even need to say it…. travel mishaps. The reality is COVID-19 is still a real and present danger which is screwing up travel more than we’ve ever experienced. If you’ve read the title to this post (I hope you have) you know where I’m going with this. You. Need. Travel. Insurance. Travel is expensive and you should protect your investment! I could take you on a handful of adventures just recapping all the times I wished I had travel insurance and didn’t. But I won’t. Okay. Maybe just one story. It is a blog post after all.

When travel doesn’t go as planned

Rewind not too far back to June 2021. The pandemic still exists but vaccines are out! Countries are opening back up! People are ready for family vacations! My husband and I were finalllllly going on our honeymoon that we’d delayed twice due to the pandemic. We counted down the days and planned our travel day to a T. We had flights from Raleigh to Belize City with a connection in Miami. The morning went absolutely flawlessly. The plane was speeding up to take off andddd…. then slammed on brakes. Ugh. We had to go back to the gate for a mechanical issue.

At least we could get breakfast, right?!

Travel Insurance | Ashley on the Move

They told us it would just be a delay for 30 minutes… then 1 hour… then 2 hours… then it was so long we would have missed our connecting flight in Miami. The flight from Miami to Belize City was the only one of the day. *Cue tears and panic*. We tried everything we could to salvage the day but it just wasn’t in the cards. We missed an entire afternoon and night at our resort, so we were paying a lot of money for an empty room.

Thankfully, we had travel insurance. That is not something I ever invested in before the pandemic, but it seemed necessary with travel rules changing daily. And now, I will never take a big trip without it again. Without travel insurance we would have been responsible for that missed night at our resort, food from being stuck in the airport for longer than necessary, and change frees for our flights home.

Sooooo, how do you avoid this fiasco?!

The best way to find travel insurance

When travel doesn't go as planned | Ashley on the Move

Enter Travel Insurance Master. This company is unlike any other travel company I’ve come across because it makes it so easy to get what you need! Have you ever scrolled through pages and pages of Airbnbs or hotels? Have you Googled restaurants in a new city and just couldn’t decide? Well, the good news is Travel Insurance Master makes it SO simple to make choice on the best insurance for you.

Travel Insurance Master sources from 10 different established and trusted insurance providers to create plans based on your needs. TIM will take information about the dates, location, and cost of your trip and use a sophisticated algorithm to select the best travel insurance for your specific trip. It saves you time and money, giving you exactly what you need and none of what you don’t!

Travel Insurance Master

My favorite part of TIM is that they are committed to providing the ability for consumers to make an educated decision on which policy is best and they are super transparent as well. Soooo what’s the catch?! There’s not one. The plans provided to you are customized to your needs whether it’s a luxury honeymoon or a trip with your whole extended family. You do not pay extra for Travel Insurance Master’s services, just the premium of the policy you select!

Here’s how it works:

  • Go to the link for Travel Insurance Master here
  • Enter the information for your destination, travel dates, and cost for your trip
  • Enter how many travelers are in your party, your age, and citizenship
  • A few more boxes to fill out and voila!
  • You’ll get information for a policy that best fits your needs.

I truly cannot suggest using TIM and having travel insurance enough.

Belize | Ashley on the Move

This story does have a good ending though… we did eventually make it to our destination a full 24 hours later. The stars aligned and the resort did have an extra night available for us (praise!) so our return was just delayed by a day. But thankfully we were not financially responsible for that extra day spent in limbo 😉

See ya, 2022! 👏🏻👋🏻

It was a great year: we bought a house, went on tons of weekend trips, visited 2 new countries, and I changed jobs.

This space grew by about 100%… even though it’s still small I’m proud of the community here! Instagram is easy to get burned out on and even through my wild inconsistency (lol) I’ve made so many new connections and learned a ton.

The blog grew by over 60%, too! I’ve been much more consistent over the last 5 months and it’s paying off big time.

But of course, I’ve got huge goals for 2023 and I can’t wait to make them happen. Thanks for being along for the ride!

High ticket items like business class flights and luxury hotels have limited award space… and they go fast. Many hotels and airlines release 360-370 days in advance and award availability goes quick! Like, sometimes same day.

If you want to book your dream trip with points, you can! Just plan waaaay ahead. Need help figuring out how?! Comment “plan ahead” below so we can chat about what card and points you need for that dream trip!
